What we see in Fox Point homes

Fox Point started as a lakeside summer community in the 1890s, became a village in 1926 and grew quickly after World War II. Its zoning keeps homes on large lots along the Lake Michigan shore. The result is a wide range of houses: older homes that may still heat with a boiler and radiators, postwar homes on their third furnace, and larger houses with two systems or zoning.

Being near the lake takes the edge off summer, but second floors and additions can still run warm, and a house without ductwork needs a different plan for cooling than one with it. Finished, well-kept homes call for careful work: covered floors, clean routes for refrigerant lines, and outdoor equipment placed where it won’t spoil the yard or bother the neighbors.

How we work in Fox Point

We work carefully in finished homes, find the real cause and show you the readings before quoting a flat-rate price. A replacement is sized to the house, and to the radiators on a boiler job, then permitted when the work requires it and tested at startup.

How it works

What happens when you call A-1

1

You call or text, any hour

A person answers 414-595-5175, not a call center. We ask a few quick questions and give you a real arrival window, not a guess.

2

We find the actual problem

We test before we replace anything and show you the readings, so you can see what failed and why.

3

You approve a flat-rate price

You get the price before any work starts, with repair and replacement options in writing when both make sense. No hourly surprises.

4

We fix it, test it and clean up

Most repairs are finished on the first visit. We test the system, clean up after ourselves and explain what we did.

Good to know

Fox Point questions we hear most

What is the best way to cool an older Fox Point home that heats with radiators?

Usually a ductless system sized room by room, with the indoor units placed where they don’t fight the furniture or the windows. Where the attic allows it, a small ducted air handler can serve the bedrooms instead. We walk the house with you and price both.

Our house has two furnaces and two air conditioners. Do you service both?

Yes, on the same visit. We check that each system is set up for the floors it serves and leave you one written report.

How fast can you get to Fox Point?

Fox Point is roughly 30 minutes up the lakefront from our shop. No-heat calls get priority, and we give you a real arrival window when you call; after hours the line rings Mike’s cell.

“He arrived right on time for a free estimate and was professional, knowledgeable, personable and easy to talk to. While he couldn’t service our 65-year-old oil burner furnace (which, totally understandable!) he was honest about it and went above and beyond by providing contact numbers for specialists who could help.”
