Rebates: we tell you what applies before you buy
Focus on Energy is Wisconsin’s statewide energy-efficiency program, funded through the utilities. For 2026, its incentives on qualifying high-efficiency gas furnaces and boilers, heat pumps, water heaters and smart thermostats are instant discounts: participating distributors pay them and the contractor passes them through, so the discount comes off the invoice. A few items, such as geothermal heat pumps and ECM circulator pumps, are still mail-in rebates, due within 60 days of the install. Amounts and qualifying efficiency levels change, so we check the current list for the equipment in your proposal before you buy.
- Gas furnaces (95% AFUE and up) and boilers (90% AFUE and up): instant discount on qualifying models
- Heat pumps: instant discount on models that meet the program’s efficiency tiers; we check your exact model, ducted or ductless
- Income-qualified Wisconsin households: the state’s IRA Home Energy Rebates can cover more of a heat pump or heat-pump water heater, but most require an IRA Registered Contractor, so ask before you sign
- For a mail-in rebate, we give you the invoice details, model and AHRI numbers the form asks for
A note on the federal tax credit
The federal 25C energy-efficient home improvement credit ended for equipment placed in service after December 31, 2025. If a website or salesperson is still promising a federal tax credit on a 2026 install, be careful. Wisconsin’s Focus on Energy rebates are still available and are the real savings on most projects.

Does applying affect my credit?
The lender runs a credit check when you apply, as with any loan. We will tell you which plan fits your project before you apply so you only apply once.
Can I finance a repair, not just a replacement?
Financing is built for installations. For a large repair, ask; sometimes it makes more sense to put the money toward a new system, and we will show you both numbers.
How do Focus on Energy incentives work in 2026?
For qualifying gas furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, water heaters and smart thermostats they are instant discounts: participating distributors pay them and the contractor passes them through, so the discount comes off the invoice at the time of purchase.
