What we see in Dousman homes

Dousman has had a post office since 1856 and was incorporated as a village in 1917, named for Talbot C. Dousman, who helped bring the Chicago and North Western railroad through. Longtime residents still know the older nickname, “Bullfrog Station,” for all the bullfrogs once found in the area. Dousman’s biggest growth came in the 1980s, when its population jumped more than 150 percent in a single decade, and it kept growing through the 2000s, reaching 2,419 residents by 2020. Housing nearly doubled in the 2000s alone, from 587 units in 2000 to 975 by 2010.

That growth means a wide mix of ages: married-couple households, a large share of people living alone, and, notably, almost one in five households with a senior living alone, more than most villages we serve. With so much of the housing stock from the 1980s through 2000s, a good share of Dousman’s original furnaces and air conditioners are now well into their second decade or beyond.

How we work in Dousman

We tell you honestly whether a repair or a replacement makes more sense, show you the readings either way, and give you a flat-rate price before any work starts. New equipment is sized with a load calculation, permitted when the work requires it and tested at startup.

How it works

What happens when you call A-1

1

You call or text, any hour

A person answers 414-595-5175, not a call center. We ask a few quick questions and give you a real arrival window, not a guess.

2

We find the actual problem

We test before we replace anything and show you the readings, so you can see what failed and why.

3

You approve a flat-rate price

You get the price before any work starts, with repair and replacement options in writing when both make sense. No hourly surprises.

4

We fix it, test it and clean up

Most repairs are finished on the first visit. We test the system, clean up after ourselves and explain what we did.

Good to know

Dousman questions we hear most

I live alone and I’m on a fixed income. Will you pressure me to replace instead of repair?

No. We tell you honestly when a repair still makes sense, and Dousman has more residents living alone than most villages we serve, so we see this question often. You get the real diagnosis and a flat-rate price either way.

Our home was built in the 1980s or 90s boom. Is the original equipment still worth fixing?

Often, yes, especially if it’s been maintained. We check the actual condition rather than assume a repair isn’t worth it just because of the home’s age.

How fast can you get to Dousman?

About an hour from our South Milwaukee shop. No-heat calls get priority, we give you a real arrival window when you call, and the emergency line is answered 24/7.
