When to stop and call

  • You smell gas. Leave the house first, then call 911 or your gas utility from outside.
  • A carbon monoxide alarm goes off. Get everyone outside and call 911.
  • A breaker trips again after you reset it.
  • Water is leaking near the furnace, boiler or water heater.
  • It is below freezing and you have no heat. Pipes can freeze in hours.

For everything else, the guides above cover the checks that are safe to do yourself. If those do not fix it, we test before we replace anything, show you the readings, and give you a flat-rate price before any work starts.

Good to know

Before you call

Can I fix my furnace myself?

Some problems, yes: a clogged filter, a switch or breaker that got turned off, a thermostat setting, a blocked outdoor vent pipe or a clogged condensate line. The guides walk through those checks. Anything inside the burner compartment, the gas valve, the control board or the refrigerant side of an air conditioner is work for a trained, certified technician.

When should I stop troubleshooting and call?

If you smell gas, leave the house first and call 911 or your gas utility from outside. If a carbon monoxide alarm goes off, get everyone outside and call 911. Call us right away if a breaker trips again after you reset it, or if water is leaking near the furnace or boiler. In winter, do not wait out a no-heat problem; pipes can freeze in hours.

Do you answer at night and on weekends?

Yes. The emergency line rings Mike’s cell 24/7, any day of the year. If he is on another call, leave a message or text and you hear back quickly. Call or text 414-595-5175.
